Your Virtual MB Arts & Culture Fix!

Welcome to your weekly Miami Beach Arts & Culture guide. View below digital event highlights for the week and be sure to check out our website for all things Arts & Culture!
With works ranging from monumental sculpture, neon, to sound and video, and participatory artworks, Art Outside is a public art exhibition initiated by The Bass that offers residents and visitors the opportunity to see and experience a network of public artworks throughout Miami Beach. In light of the socially distant world born from the COVID-19 pandemic, Art Outside takes the form of a curated parcours, expanding beyond The Bass’ Collins Park campus to multiple partner sites throughout the city.

Installed in Collins Park and around The Bass, artworks include permanent and temporary works from The Bass’ collection by Ugo Rondinone, Jim Drain, Sylvie Fleury, Lawrence Weiner, and Susan Philipsz, a temporary commission by Miami-based artist Karen Rifas, as well as artworks from the collections of the City of Miami Beach Art in Public Places, Miami Beach Urban Studios FIU, The Wolfsonian-Florida International University and the W South Beach.

BRAFF Miami is an official event of the Cities of Miami and Miami Beach. The Festival’s first edition, 24 years ago, overlapped with the resumption of Brazilian cinema in the 90’s. Since the first edition, Brazilian Film Festival of Miami has been a showcase for training, reflection, promotion, cultural exchange, diversity and artistic recognition. In addition, BRAFF Miami provides a business environment with extraordinary economic potential for the Brazilian audiovisual production industry.

The Miami Foundation, in partnership with Miami-Dade County, through its Department of Public Housing and Community Development (PHCD), is offering one-time grants to nonprofits to help provide relief to organizations impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19). This $10 million in funding is made possible from federal Coronavirus Relief Funds and must be used to cover employee payroll, business interruption costs, reopening and other expenses related to COVID-19.

The application deadline is
September 30, 2020.

RECOVERY RESOURCES
The City of Miami Beach Cultural Affairs staff is available to assist artists and arts organizations in identifying nationwide and local recovery resources for artists and arts organizations. If you or your organization has been impacted by Covid-19, you may be eligible for assistance. Learn more at our Recovery Resources portal. The site is frequently updated, so be sure to check back often.

Still have questions? Some of them may be answered in the Arts & Culture Small Business Webinar, hosted by Mayor Dan Gelber. Originally hosted on Monday, April 6, the archive is available on Facebook here.
