City of Weston

NEWS FROM THE CITY OF WESTON
October 26, 2021
Next Regular City Commission Meeting: Monday, November 1
Weston University Class of 2022
First Program Day Kicks Off During City Government Week
It was an extra special day for staff on October 19, as Weston welcomed back Weston University Program students after a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic. On this first monthly program day, with six more to come, students learned about our local and state government. It was an up close and personal experience with Weston’s City Manager Don Decker, Mayor Margaret Brown and a Zoom call from Tallahassee with State Representative Robin Bartleman.
The Weston University Program was founded in 2002 on the premise that civics education is not just someone else’s job. Initiated each year during Florida City Government Week, the program is designed to create a unique educational and personal experience for high school students, through open communication with government officials and departments. It also exposes high school students to the multiple layers of government and various career possibilities that they may not have otherwise discovered.
A Return to a (Somewhat) Normal Halloween
Safety Should Always be a Priority
As youngsters flood our streets in costume once again this Sunday, October 31, it is important for all of us to make their exciting night of candy collection as safe as possible. Since last year’s trick-or-treating was trumped by COVID-19 and rainy weather, the excitement is building up for this year’s holiday.

Parents can take simple steps to ensure safety, such as carrying flashlights or glow sticks and making sure that children are supervised and wearing proper fitting costumes. If you do not have young children, it’s important to be aware of the extra pedestrian traffic and excited trick-or-treaters roaming our neighborhood streets on Sunday evening. Drivers should use extra caution.

Be sure to put your coach or porch lights on if you are welcoming trick-or-treaters. Some may prefer to have a contactless option by setting up a table of treats outside. It’s up to you, but whatever you do, enjoy the evening of family fun!
