City of Weston thanks those who served our country for Veterans Day
Veterans Day Remembrance
A Salute to All Veterans
On November 11, we honor the men and women who have dedicated their time to serve in the United States Armed Forces. The sacrifices of our military members, and their families, make possible the pursuit of those freedoms granted to the people of our nation. We salute all veterans for their service on this day, which dates back to Armistice Day – the day World War I was brought to an end at 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918. As tradition stands, throughout our nation we pause on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month to honor all veterans on this special day.
Thanksgiving Food Drive Drop-Off This Saturday
Make a difference in just one day. The City of Weston and Harvest Drive is hosting a one-day Thanksgiving Food Drop and Drive-Thru at the Weston Community Center this Saturday, November 13 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Items needed: cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, cornbread mix, powdered milk, applesauce, canned vegetables, canned yams (sweet potatoes), boxed mashed potatoes, stuffing, peanut butter & pasta.
BSO Hosts Bikes Safety Event on Sunday
Whether you’re a parent just beginning to teach your child how to bike, or a regular cyclist who rides with groups, there will be something for you to learn at Bikes and Badges. Join the Broward Sheriff’s Office Weston District at Regional Park this Sunday, (Nov. 14) to learn all about biking in Weston. They’ll have safety information, helmet and accessory fitting, bike repair vendors and even a tot bike rodeo! So bring your bikes and helmets (and an appetite for the on-site food trucks) and come spend some time with your local deputies.
A Colorful Afternoon at Chalk in the Park Day
We had so much fun at the first Chalk in the Park event that we had to bring it back again! On Sunday we hosted some of Weston’s most talented artists at Library Park and watched them create some amazing works of chalk art on the sidewalk. The theme was “Create Your Happy,” and it sure gave us some happiness to see their creations! Thanks to everyone who came out to the event and a special “Thank You!” to our partners at the Weston Arts Council for helping to make it happen.

And the Winners are . . .

Is There Practice Tonight?
Park and Field Closures - RainoutLine and ThorGuard
Parents rushing to get young athletes to practice or a game will appreciate the heads up for field closures that is provided by two services deployed by Weston Parks. Individual field access can be determined via the RainoutLine, which can be accessed online or via an app so you will know if a field (or entire park) is not available due to rain, flooding or maintenance, etc. Additionally, the ThorGuard system will show whether any of the three athletic parks – Regional, Vista or Tequesta Trace – are under a lightning alert. Neither system will take the place of communication directly from your coach or league, but it will help you to stay informed about field and park access.

Curious About Solar Energy?
Broward County has set an initial goal to acquire 20% of its electricity from renewable sources to an effort to slow the impact of climate change. Renewable energy from the sun is one of our best options. If you are interested in solar energy for your home or small business, learn more about the Broward Solar Co-op, which is open for new members to apply through Nov. 30.
