Aspen Ideas: Climate is a new annual event in Miami Beach through May 12 that will bring some of the most exciting innovators and leaders together with the public to engage with climate solutions that have the potential to reshape our world.

The City of Miami Beach has partnered with the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs to launch the Arts Resilient305 | Aspen Institute initiative. Local artists were invited to commission new and repositioned site-specific temporary public art installations and performances highlighting issues related to climate change and sea-level rise.

The outdoor art activations and performances are free and open to the public

In addition, Aspen Ideas: Climate will wallcast replays of the evening speaker sessions onto the New World Center’s facade beginning around 7:30 p.m. each night for free public viewing. The film programs will follow immediately after, at approximately 9:30 p.m. each night.

Artists have helped Miami become one of the most culturally vibrant cities in the United States. For longtime residents and first-time visitors alike, the visual arts are a central part of the Miami experience. We hope this grant program, which is offering up to $500,000 this year, will be a game changer both for our visual artists and our city, by providing working artists with the resources they need to do their best work.

The Ellies are offered in four categories to support Miami-Dade working and emerging artists, art educators, and established, professionally accomplished artists.

Applications are open now through May 16.

Join the City of Miami Beach tonight, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. at SoundScape Park for a special presentation of Aspen Ideas: Climate. Aspen Ideas: Climate will wallcast replays of the evening speaker sessions onto the New World Center’s facade beginning around 7:30 p.m. each night for free public viewing. The film programs will follow immediately after, at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Each film screening is free to the public and does not require a ticket. Physical distancing guidelines will be followed.

The film program will include artists A.S.T. (Alliance of the Southern Triangle), Dale Andree, Domingo Castillo, Coralmorphologic, Hattie Mae Williams, and Lee Pivnik.
