Let's Talk Trash Well, Garbage Collection Actually We’re settling it right now. Do you know how to curb your garbage cart correctly? We know it’s a mundane task that happens in your household twice weekly, but there are basic guidelines to follow when it comes to throwing out the trash. Please review these with anyone responsible for the popular garbage chore at your home.
The City of Weston issues standard garbage carts for automated household collection. Because the system is automated, only garbage placed INSIDE the garbage cart will be picked up. The only exception to this rule is on Bulk Trash pickup day, when bulk items may be placed curbside for collection which happens four times a year.
Rules to Remember When Curbing Your Cart - Place carts facing the street
- Do not place items on top of the cart.
- Carts must be three feet away from another cart, mailboxes, fire hydrants, trees, etc.
- Place curbside prior to 7 a.m. on your collection day (no earlier than the night before)
Also, keep pesky critters at bay by securing your lid each time you take out the trash. Rascally racoons and other wildlife will love munching on your scraps otherwise, and make a mess doing so. |

Rabies Alert for Portions of Weston The Florida Department of Health in Broward County (DOH-Broward) issued a rabies alert for a portion of Weston, Florida, in response to a fox that tested positive on September 17. Residents and visitors should be aware that rabies is present in the wild animal population and domestic animals are at risk if not vaccinated, which is why rabies vaccines are mandatory each year.
The rabies alert is in effect for 60 days, expiring on November 16. |

Be a Responsible Pet Owner Dog owners unite! Having furry family members also layers on extra responsibilities. Much like feeding and caring for pets, responsible pet ownership also includes knowing and following the law according to Broward County Code of Ordinances. Be sure to follow the following rules: - Leash Law (Section 4-3): Dogs must be kept on a leash or confined within a fenced in yard when outside of your home. No exceptions.
- Pet Waste: It’s your doo-ty to pick up after your dog. (Sorry, we had to go there.) Pet waste left behind is considered an illegal nuisance, plus it contaminates our waterways, (fecal coliform is found in waterbodies throughout Broward.) Just bag it and trash it.
- Rabies Vaccination (Section 4-10): Cats, dogs and ferrets must be vaccinated annually. This is very important should your pet come into contact with rabid wildlife.
- County Registration (Section 4-11): Cats and dogs must have and wear a current Rabies Registration Tag.
