The XXVI International Ballet Festival of Miami presents their classical gala performances at The Fillmore Miami Beach, Saturday, Aug. 14 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. featuring companies from around the United States and Europe including the Washington Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Pennsylvania/Philadelphia Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami, Arts Ballet Theater Florida, Birmingham Ballet, Magdeburg Ballet and Dimensions Dance Theater of Miami. At the Saturday evening performance the IBFM will honor Miami City Ballet Artistic Director and ex New York City Ballet Principal ballerina Lourdes Lopez with the Lifetime Achievement Award, "A Life For Dance", and present a Balanchine pas de deux by Miami City Ballet dancers.

This festival represents the most ambitious ballet project ever conceived in South Florida. The magnitude of the program, along with the prestige of the participating companies and the renowned principal ballet stars, have captured the attention of the most demanding audiences. The festival has accomplished the task of introducing the audiences of Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach Counties and Miami Beach, as well as tourists, to a stunning array of national and international ballet companies encompassing Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the USA, many making their USA debut.

In addition to being live-in-theater and socially distanced, the performances will also be live streamed.

True to its roots in the early 1920s as a destination for dining and dancing in the streets, Española Way is still the place for yoga by day or samba and live jazz by night. Charming scenes and a vibrant community scene invite guests to take advantage of daily, weekly and monthly events, many of which are free to the public. These performances include:

"Boteco Copacabana"  The spirit of samba comes to life as dancers take to the pedestrian-only streets for pulse-quickening performances every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.
"A La Folie"  Enjoy a live saxophone performance Wednesday through Sunday at 7 p.m. outside of the French bistro, A La Folie.
New to the street, Mediterranean-inspired MoonLight Restaurant will soon be featuring live belly dancers every Sunday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. as well as a saxophone performer on Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

What is a monument? In 2021, we continue to witness an international debate on monuments, reconsidering who they honor, their purpose and relevance and the validity of continued existence.

Building upon this context and engaging in current conversations, The Bass opens the second cycle of the "New Monuments" program by calling for artists to create a temporary, new monument. Following its inaugural year and winner Najja Moon, this initiative returns to invite artists to create a work of art that will be on view in Collins Park for approximately 10-12 months.

This open call for artist submissions is for the 2021 cycle, closing Aug. 27. Subsequent calls will be announced annually. The selection process will be made by the museum’s curatorial team and external jurors.
