NEWS FROM THE CITY OF WESTON
October 20, 2020

Uncover Amendment Two
Your Mayor and Commissioners have recorded videos to help educate you, the public, about the second of Broward County’s two Charter Questions placed on the November 3 ballot – Amendment Two. It has to do with the County Regulation of the Development of Surtax-Funded Transportation Improvements on County Property (which is the exact wording on the ballot); but, these properties also fall within Weston and other municipalities.
Where's George? Find the Park
Here's the Clue for Week 3
Be it at a City of Weston park or in a good book, George loves to get lost! See if you can find this Ficus tree which is one of George's favorite reading spots in the City. There's plenty of shade to go around, so step outside and bring a book with you or enjoy a stroll along the pathway. It'll help you say "See you later, Alligator," to everyday stresses.

Share your photo and use #WhereInWestonIsGeorge. Don't forget to solve the clue at WestonFL.org/Parks/George for all 8 weeks to claim your prize!
Residential Quarterly Bulk Pickup This Week
Time for a clean sweep before the holiday season! The next Quarterly Residential Bulk Trash Pickup will be held this week on your regular garbage service day - from Wednesday, October 21 through Friday, October 23 for single family homes and multi-family units with curbside collection; and on Saturday, October 24 for multi-family homes with dumpster collection. Be sure your items are placed curbside by 7 a.m. on your service day.
Glass of water for Tap Water Chlorine Treatment
Temporary Change in Water Treatment
From October 26 through November 18, 2020, the Sunrise Utility Department will switch from monochloramine to free chlorine disinfection in its drinking water treatment system to provide additional protection against bacteria. Water customers may notice a change in the taste, odor or color of their tap water during this time. Learn more about this periodic practice among water suppliers by clicking below.

Please note that this process is different than the hydrant flushing process that also may take place in your neighborhood periodically. During hydrant flushing, your tap water may be cloudy or discolored as the process flushes sediments which may have settled in the distribution pipes out of the system. If this happens, just flush your tap until water runs clear.
Weston Hunger Fighters Wanted
Food Drive through November 17
The City of Weston has teamed up with Harvest Drive to help them continue their 27 year tradition of 'Children Helping Children'. With less students physically back in the schools, Harvest Drive will likely loose some of their student donors so we are reaching out to YOU.

We have three (3) City drop-off locations for non perishable foods (no glass containers please). Any amount helps and is greatly appreciated.
Planning Ahead for a Safe Halloween
With a little planning, Halloween can be safely enjoyed at home or in the neighborhood. Be sure to take all of the usual precautions if you plan to be out and about at night – bring a flashlight, wear reflective costumes or use glow in the dark items – and add on the COVID-19 precautions for physical distancing and hand washing. You may wish to consider alternative plans to keep the tradition alive for your little pumpkin, ghosts and goblins.
Keep Pets Safe During Halloween
We all love a spooky season fright, but some scares are just not worth the risk. Like the all too common scare of the family pet getting into the candy. Pet owners are familiar with the risks chocolate poses to dogs, but what else should you keep in mind this year? Read through our safety tips to also keep your family's pets safe this Halloween.
BSO Traffic Message Board Contest
Have you ever seen an eye-catching message board like "Texting and Driving? Oh Cell No" or a holiday-themed "Only Reindeer Can Fly, Watch Your Speed" These messages make an impact and BSO Weston is looking for a great message from YOU to help impact traffic safety in Weston.
