Miami-Dade County Office of Community Advocacy

Message from Commissioner Micky Steinberg

District 4

Commissioner Micky Steinberg sponsored legislation that will serve as an essential tool for law enforcement to manage and mitigate noise disturbances effectively. The legislation was unanimously approved at the Oct. 3 Board of County Commissioners meeting. This amendment to the County’s noise ordinance clarifies the legal mechanism by which unreasonably loud, excessive, unnecessary, or unusual noise emanating from a vessel or floating structure is determined. This item aligns the enforcement for loud noise emanating from vessels or floating structures with those used for noise ordinance issues on land.

This ordinance will permit law enforcement to protect the quality of life of our residents that live along our waters who are negatively impacted by the continual noise these floating structures and vessels are emitting.

This change to the County’s noise ordinance took effect on Oct. 13, 2023.

Perry's memory was honored through the “Love-Art-Football” exhibit during an opening night reception on Oct. 27, held at the South Dade Black History Center located at the Larcenia J. District Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee and former Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan were in attendance.
