Government Finance Professional Week
This week, we recognize the men and women that make up our Finance team! If you stay up-to-date on City of Weston news, you know that our Finance team was once again awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. That extends their streak to 24 years in a row!
We’ll be sharing more of their accomplishments this week – so follow our social media pages to get to know how the financial and accounting business at the City of Weston is done.
On Saturday, April 1 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., BSO will host its first community Meet and Greet with Therapy K9 Olivia, especially in support for our families and friends with special needs. This event will be held outside at the BSO Weston District Office at 17300 Royal Palm Boulevard. There will also be sensory activities, networking opportunities, arts & crafts, games, and more. Registration is suggested, but not required.
Enjoy a cool spring evening of spectacular entertainment by talented musicians and spectacular vocalists on Saturday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m. The South Florida Symphony will perform an exciting array of musical arrangements including selections from Mama Mia, Disney’s Encanto, Frank Sinatra, Harry Potter and more. The concert will take place in Weston Town Center, in the plaza behind the Bell Tower.

Traffic & Transportation in Weston to be Discussed
Multi-Modal Charette on Tuesday, April 4 | 3:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Everyone who drives, walks or rides a bike in Weston is impacted in some way by the transportation infrastructure within our City. On April 4, between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Weston will host a charette to discuss the following topics: Citywide Bicycle Master Plan Update, Emerald Estates Drive Corridor Study, and the “Southwest Weston Quadrant” Traffic Study (encompassing South Post Road, Manatee Isles Drive, Vista Park Drive and Bonaventure Boulevard). There will be expert presentations as well as project stations for you to provide your ideas or express your concerns.
The hunt is on for over 30,000 eggs at Weston’s Royal Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8. The egg hunts for children ages 10 and under begin at 10 a.m. sharp. It is recommended to arrive at Regional Park no later than 9:15 a.m. to have time to park and find the age-appropriate field for your child. Bring your own basket or bag for collecting eggs. After the egg hunts, enjoy a photo with the Royal Bunny and inflatable games through noon.
Why was SW 36th Street closed? There is a lockdown at my child’s school and I have no information.
The City of Weston answers these types of questions regularly through various communication platforms, including the City’s website, email, social media. It is helpful for our residents to know where to turn to receive the information that is important to you.

1-800-222-1222. Write that number down and leave it a place where everyone in the house can see it. That’s the number to Poison Help – a hotline for emergency expert advice from nationally accredited medical professionals. Annually, they’ll assist over 2 million people, with poison-related questions ranging from cleaning supplies to bug bites. Poison Help doesn’t just offer advice after a poisoning event though, they believe the best way to prevent a poisoning is through education and awareness.
This week, learn the best ways to prevent a poisoning from occurring in your family.
Proper fences, barriers, alarms and covers can be lifesaving devices. A fence of at least four feet in height should surround the pool or spa on all sides. The water should only be accessible through a self-closing, self-latching gate. Teach children to never try to climb over the gate or fence. Install a door alarm from the house to the pool area, and keep pool and spa covers in working order.
Proper pool barriers DO NOT substitute for adult supervision. There should always be a Water Watcher when children are around water.
Check out the spring schedule, which run from March through May 2023, for swim lessons at the Weston YMCA! There are options for all ages, from parent and child classes through adult. Learning how to swim is a life-saving skill, especially here in South Florida where we are surrounded by lakes, canals, and other bodies of water. So, stay cool in the pool and learn to swim at the Y today!
