The Florida Department of Health in Broward County (DOH-Broward) issued a rabies alert for a portion of Weston, Florida. This is in response to a fox that tested positive on September 17. Residents and visitors in Broward should be aware that rabies is present in the wild animal population and domestic animals are at risk if not vaccinated, which is why rabies vaccinations are mandatory each year. For information on the alert area and precautions to take, please read the linked news alert.
First Redistricting Meeting This Thursday, September 23
The Census Bureau released data from the 2020 Census, providing the basis for Broward County to complete its required redistricting – the process of drawing boundaries for political districts – to rebalance districts to account for population shifts, thus ensuring equal representation.
On Thursday, September 23, at 7 p.m. join Broward County and Florida International University (FIU) experts at Miramar Town Center City Hall who will host a series of public education meetings on the redistricting process and receive community input. This is the first of six meetings that are taking place throughout Broward County.
Your Harvest Drive donations are making a real difference in the lives of Broward County students. Drop food items at:
Weston City Hall | 17200 Royal Palm Boulevard (at front door under the porte cochere)
Weston Community Center | 20200 Saddle Club Road (inside Regional Park, donation bin in front of the front doors.)

Bicyclists in Florida aren’t just bicyclists; they’re also drivers! And the bikes they’re operating are vehicles. Bicyclists and car operators alike both need to be aware of the rules of the road. Find out some of those rules on our bicycle and traffic safety page. Be sure to also check out some of the safety tips for pedestrians and motorists.
Weston businesses must have an active Local Business Tax Receipt (BTR) in order to do business in the City. The Local BTR must be renewed annually by September 30 in order to remain active and avoid penalties. Existing business owners with active email addresses should have received an email from the City of Weston with a direct link to your Local BTR invoice to pay online. If you did not receive an email, click below for general information on the Local BTR process.

“Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone” --Joni Mitchell
We have lived through the unimaginable. No one can see every show or performance they want to, but who could’ve imagined having zero options to attend? As someone who looks to CultureOwl for cultural things to do, it’s extremely likely that you are someone who craves live performances. And after last year’s crushing cancellations, chances are you—and performers—are happier about this season’s arrival than any other before!
We haven’t forgotten that being part of an audience is it’s own experience, in addition to the performance. The virtual world allows us to experience things on our own schedule—a live performance waits for no one! The anticipation, wearing that special something, being part of a crowd, dining out; these are activities that spark a unique joy for most of us, one that’s been sorely missed. But this season is giving us plenty to get excited about.
The arts in 2021-22 are off to a slower start. After all, we’re still navigating through our new reality. But companies that have already announced their season include Florida Grand Opera, Broadway Across America-Fort Lauderdale, Slow Burn Theatre Co., Miami City Ballet, and Area Stage Company. The choices are a bit more mainstream, so proven favorites abound, including an astounding number of choices for The Nutcracker.
The exchange of energy between performers and audience is not reproducible any other way. A spectacular performance that bonds audience members is a once-only event. Cultural arts feed the soul like nothing else can. It’s time to attend again!
