Memorial Day
Honoring Those Who Gave All
On Monday, May 31, let us all pause in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice to our great nation. Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the loss that our nation has suffered and to honor and give thanks to those who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

With roots as far back as the end of the Civil War, the Memorial Day holiday began as “Decoration Day” on May 30, 1868 – a time to decorate the graves of those that lost their lives in the war; yet, even prior to that date, local observances were held to honor those who died fighting in battles across the North and the South. Memorial Day was declared a national holiday in 1971.
