Leon County COVID-19 Community Update for July 6

As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread globally, Leon County Emergency Management is committed to actively monitoring the disease and coordinating preparedness efforts with local health officials, healthcare providers, first responders and other critical emergency response functions.

The following update provides a timely, accurate and vetted source of official County and community information.

Significant Changes Since Last Update

Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality (OEV) distributes cloth face coverings to businesses. Beginning Tuesday, July 7, face coverings will be available at OEV, Big Bend Minority Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, and the Capital City Chamber of Commerce. A business with one location is eligible for up to 100 face coverings. Walk-up reservation system available at the FAMU-Bond COVID-19 testing site at the Bragg Stadium. FDOH launched a mobile application for walk-up patients to submit their names and mobile numbers so as to later that day be notified when they can report for a sample collection. The reservation system will help patients beat the heat by waiting in their cars with air conditioning, and also limit any possible transmission when queuing in lines. The system complements the by-phone reservation process.

Pixel by LabCorp offers at home coronavirus testing option. Originally approved in late April, at that time the at-home collection kit was only available to healthcare workers and first responders. Recently, that restriction was lifted and now LabCorp has made the COVID-19 collection kit available broadly. This at-home collection kit comes at no cost to those with Capital Health Plan, other insurance policies, and the uninsured (federal CARES money defrays the cost). More here. 
Governor DeSantis extends moratorium on evictions and foreclosures until August 1. More here. 
County offering free face coverings for pickup at all Libraries. Starting Wednesday, June 24, Leon County will make thousands of free face coverings available for pickup at all County library locations during regular hours. Two face masks per individual will be allowed to ensure adequate supply to meet demand. For locations and hours click here. 
Suspension of on-premise consumption of alcohol at bars (amended). On Wednesday July 1, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) amended its order that suspended alcohol sales at bars and pubs to allow any establishment licensed to sell food to sell alcohol, effective immediately.  View the amended order HERE.
It’s Not Too Much to Mask Campaign. Leon County launched the social media campaign, It’s Not Too Much to Mask to encourage the use of masks and facial coverings in public. If you’d like to participate, post a masked-up selfie and share why you wear a mask and for whom using#MaskOnLeon.
COVID-19 by the Numbers. Global cases of COVID-19 now surpass 11.4 million. According to the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) there are or have been 1,824 positive cases of COVID-19 in Leon County. In Florida, there are or have been 206,447 positive cases of COVID-19, and 3,778 COVID-19-related deaths. Estafas de ventas en línea: cuando las órdenes de pedido no llegan

Cuando en las tiendas locales se acabaron los productos que necesitábamos para ocuparnos del COVID-19, muchos de nosotros recurrimos a vendedores que operan en línea. Según un nuevo Dato destacado, los estafadores operaron sitios en internet y tomaron órdenes de pedido de artículos faltantes, pero no entregaron los pedidos. En abril y mayo, hubo más gente que reportó ante la FTC problemas con compras en línea que en cualquier otro mes del que haya registro, y más de la mitad de esas personas dijo que nunca recibió lo que había ordenado.

Los reportes indican que, a principios de la pandemia, vendedores cuestionables establecieron sitios web en los que ofrecían productos que eran difíciles de encontrar. La gente pidió máscaras faciales, productos desinfectantes, papel higiénico, termómetros y guantes. Cuando los clientes preguntaron por sus órdenes de pedido, los estafadores dijeron que la pandemia estaba causando demoras en la entrega, y luego dejaron de responder. Cuando en abril y mayo la gente reportó los pedidos no entregados ante la FTC, el principal producto faltante eran las máscaras faciales.

Los reportes sobre problemas con las compras en línea no son una novedad para la FTC. De hecho, desde 2015 la cantidad de esos reportes se ha incrementado todos los años. En 2019, la gente presentó más de 86,000 reportes sobre problemas con compras en línea, y entre ellos se incluyen reportes por órdenes de pedido que nunca llegaron. Desde 2015, la gente ha reportado pérdidas que en su totalidad alcanzan una suma de casi $420 millones de dólares en relación con problemas de compras en línea.

Para evitar problemas cuando compres en línea:

Verifica la legitimidad y reputación del vendedor antes de comprar. Ingresa el nombre de la compañía o sitio web en un motor de búsqueda junto con palabras como “scam”, “complaint” o “review”, si haces la búsqueda en español, agrega palabras como "estafa", "queja" o "comentario".

Paga con tarjeta de crédito. Si te efectuaron un cargo en tu tarjeta por un pedido que no recibiste nunca, comunícate con la compañía emisora de tu tarjeta y disputa el cargo.

Guarda copias de la descripción, precio y recibo del producto y los emails que intercambiaste con el vendedor, incluidos los mensajes sobre las demoras de entrega.

El asesinato de John F. Kennedy mató mucho más que a una persona, marcó un antes y un después en la historia del Partido Demócrata, la nación y el mundo. Su sucesor convirtió la lucha contra la discriminación institucional en «discriminación positiva», el fin del individuo como sujeto de derecho y el principio de derechos colectivos de la mano de cuotas y subsidios.

La idea de que el Partido Demócrata es el abanderado de las minorías ha logrado que más del 90 % de los votos de la comunidad negra sean a su favor. Tanto que si un negro se atreve a cuestionar a un candidato, este tiene el poder de negarle su origen racial. Tal como hizo Joe Biden, candidato demócrata a la Presidencia de EE. UU., quien le dijo a un periodista negro «si no sabes si votar por mí en lugar de Donald Trump, entonces no eres negro».

También tienen el poder de lograr lo opuesto. «Los latinos son negros», dijo la parlamentaria socialista Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, negando así la enorme diversidad entre los hispanos: blancos, mestizos, indígenas, mulatos, etc.

En lugar de promover el sueño americano, donde cada persona es libre de salir adelante pese a su origen, el Partido Demócrata trata a la etnia y nacionalidad como un factor determinante.

Tampoco respeta el sueño de Martin Luther King Jr. de no ser tratado según el color de nuestra piel, sino por nuestro carácter. Ahora, por el contrario, los demócratas en Nueva York están en campaña para remover del poder a hombres blancos bajo la excusa de justicia social.

En las elecciones primarias acaba de triunfar Jamaal Bowman con casi el 62 % de los votos frente a Eliot Engel con menos del 35 %. Engel tiene más de 30 años de trayectoria política, Bowman cero. Lo que pesa a su favor es el ideario «progresista», que nada tiene que ver con el progreso. Conlleva los pasos progresivos hacia el totalitarismo. Busca poner en manos del Estado todo, desde la salud hasta el control de la producción.

Para ello, tiene el respaldo de los parlamentarios socialistas Bernie Sanders y Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, promotores del Green New Deal, un proyecto de ley que pregona el socialismo encubierto de ambientalismo.

«El éxito de Bowman es en algunos aspectos sorprendentemente similar a la derrota de Ocasio-Cortez del representante Joe Crowley en las primarias de 2018. Ambos retadores progresistas se enfrentaron a veteranos congresistas blancos con políticas más moderadas en distritos que son en su mayoría negros y marrones y desproporcionadamente inmigrantes. Engel, como Crowley, es uno de los demócratas más poderosos de la Cámara», reporta Business Insider.

El avance progresista expuso su filiación al socialismo más extremo mediante la campaña presidencial del demócrata Bernie Sanders. Salieron a la luz discurso suyos donde deja en evidencia su admiración hacia el dictador cubano Fidel Castro, enalteció a la Unión Soviética e incluso aplaudió a los sandinistas de Nicaragua. No obstante, frente a la tiranía de Nicolás Maduro en Venezuela, él y los demás demócratas han sido muy cautelosos para no arriesgar el voto hispano, la minoría más grande en EE. UU.

Recientemente, Joe Biden, en un intento de antagonizar con el presidente Trump, llamó dictador a Maduro y los resultados fueron desfavorables, pues el sentimiento antiamericano que impera en la izquierda ha enaltecido a Maduro como héroe entre los votantes demócratas. Sobre todo frente al hecho de que estos simpatizan con el socialismo, sistema político-económico que impera en Venezuela.

Lo cierto es que hay división dentro del Partido Demócrata. Al punto que Hillary Clinton, la rival de Trump en las elecciones del 2016, dijo que perdió porque Bernie Sanders ofrecía ponis gratis.

El partido que en tiempos de Kennedy abogó por la igualdad ante la ley, desde Lyndon B. Johnson aboga por los subsidios y cuotas. Por tanto, se han denominado «políticas de plantación». Pues en lugar de otorgar libertad a la población negra, cuyos ancestros sufrieron la esclavitud, el Partido Demócrata se ha convertido en el amo que propugna la eterna dependencia a cambio de techo y comida.

Cabe destacar que el Ku Klux Klan, organización creada para sembrar el miedo entre los esclavos del sur para que no escaparan hacia su libertad en el norte, nació en el Partido Demócrata.

El racismo moderno no persigue ni lincha al negro desobediente, lo mantiene eternamente dependiente al Estado. Coartando así su libertad. Y ese es el futuro que ofrecen los demócratas en caso de ganar las elecciones este año. No una economía que premia el esfuerzo, sino una política que asigna cuotas y dádivas de acuerdo con el aspecto, y con el poder suficiente de removerlo en caso de desobediencia.

Como dijo Trotsky, quien fue líder del Ejército Rojo: «en el capitalismo quien no trabaja no come, en el socialismo quien no obedece no comerá»."
