Glass of water for Tap Water Chlorine Treatment
Temporary Change in Tap Water Chlorination Treatment
March 29 - April 26, 2021
The City of Sunrise Utilities Department will temporarily switch from monochloramine to free chlorine disinfection in its drinking water treatment system to provide additional protection against bacteria beginning March 29, 2021. This temporary treatment of the water system is done annually and is a common practice for water suppliers that use the Chloramine water treatment method.

The procedure does not cause any adverse health effects; however, some individuals may notice a slight change in the taste, odor or color of the water during this time. Hospitals and kidney dialysis centers are notified of this change and those maintaining aquariums should take note as some aquatic species are sensitive to free chlorine.
