City of Weston

NEWS FROM THE CITY OF WESTON
November 17, 2020

Welcome New Weston City Commission
It is our pleasure to introduce the community to new City Commissioners: Henry Mead and Chris Eddy. You will find that their backgrounds are not only interesting, but bring a wealth of business experience to compliment new Mayor Margaret Brown who already has four years of experience as a City Commissioner, and vast business experience as well. Together with Commissioners Byron Jaffe and Mary Molina-Macfie, Weston is prepared to take on 2021!
How We Manage Stormwater
Right about now, there are a lot of people very interested in how Weston's Stormwater is managed. We're glad you've taken interest. In Weston, stormwater is managed through a system of interconnected lakes and canals which are regularly maintained by the City's Public Works Department. Our drainage system is designed for the “100-year flood” in such a way as to make sure water does not get into homes or compromise our sewer system
Fall Front Porch Décor
Let’s celebrate the fall season! The City of Weston and the Arts Council of Greater Weston invite you to showcase your Fall décor with us. Decorate the r front entryway of your home with your favorite fall theme and share on your favorite social media platforms.

Participate now through November 30 by tagging us with #HappyFallWeston so we can enjoy the Fall season together. Participants will be randomly selected to win a Weston swag bag.
George Moves From Parks to Higher Ground
No New Clue This Week
George is going on vacation this week. He's not the best swimmer so he needs to find some higher ground. While he's away, you can take some time to solve the clues from weeks one through five and submit the answers to us. If you have the chance to explore the parks, be sure to avoid areas that have standing water.

George will return on Monday, weather permitting.

Have You Registered for the Rotary Run?
The 23rd Annual Rotary Run for Tomorrow hosted by the Rotary Club of Weston, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, and the City of Weston, is slowly approaching. This year, all events – 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay – will be held virtually. All runners will participate in the races at a location of their choice and complete their run any time between December 5 through 13. Register now to race to the finish line!
Take on the Mayor's Challenge
Due to COVID-19, this year’s Mayor’s Get Fit Challenge will be a drive-by event on Sunday, December 6, with stops throughout Weston where participants will earn points by answering questions or performing a quick fitness exercise. Elementary school students will once again compete to earn cash prizes for their school, and receive prizes for themselves at each stop along the way.

Facial coverings are required to be worn by all participants.
Visitors Guide 2020
Although COVID-19 has put a damper on our holiday plans, the Weston Visitors Guide offers residents and visitors alike a listing of dining, shopping and personal services throughout our City. Since the guide contains listings that were verified in September, it is recommended to call the business prior to visiting. The 2020 Visitors Guide is available online and hard copies are available at select locations throughout the City, including hotels or the Library. You can also stop by City Hall to pick up a few copies (call us at 954-385-2000.)

Let's all try to 'Shop Local' to help our local economy.
