Honoring the Lives of Battalion Chief Terryson Jackson and Lurean Wheaton
Join us as we remember and honor the lives of two individuals who tragically lost their lives on August 28, 2023. On Friday, September 8, a public Line of Duty Memorial was held to pay tribute to BSO Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Terryson Jackson, who perished in a helicopter crash, while responding to an emergency call with two of his BSFR colleagues. Additionally, we remember Lurean Wheaton, a 65-year-old resident of the Pompano Beach apartment where the accident occurred. Our deepest condolences go out to their families, friends, and colleagues. May they both rest in peace.

City Manager Donald P. Decker
Honored with Florida Recreation & Park Association Lifetime Achievement Award
You may wonder why the Florida Recreation & Park Association (FRPA) has chosen to recognize Weston's City Manager with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The reason lies in Mr. Decker's extensive background as a Parks & Recreation Director, where he demonstrated a longstanding commitment to leadership, mentoring, and service within the FRPA organization—a commitment that he still upholds today. Currently, Mr. Decker has extended his leadership contributions by becoming an active member of the Broward City and County Manager's Association, striving to enhance the efforts of local municipalities and the county in serving our community.
The Arts Council of Greater Weston
Honored with Florida Recreation & Park Association Voluntary Service Award
Staff submitted a nomination for The Arts Council of Greater Weston for the Voluntary Service Award: Group. City leaders and administration could not be more pleased and in agreement that they are surely WINNERS!

The Arts Council plays a pivotal role in enhancing the City's annual events. As a unique entity outside the traditional Parks and Recreation Department, which operates with limited staff resources, the Arts Council fills the crucial gap by providing the necessary personnel to make these events a reality. What sets The Arts Council of Greater Weston apart is the unparalleled passion, commitment, and creativity demonstrated by its board members. Their dedication has turned the organization into an invaluable asset for the Weston community.
Diaper Needs Awareness Week
Diaper Needs Awareness Week is coming up -- September 18 through 24 -- and we're here to spread the word about an often-overlooked need in our community. Diapers might seem like a small thing, but for many families, they're a big deal. Not all families have easy access to new diapers, and that can be tough on both parents and little ones. We’re joining the Fort Lauderdale Diaper Bank to shine a light on the issue and how it affects parents, babies, and toddlers right here in Broward County and you can join us!

We’re collecting new diaper donations at our Harvest Drive collection bins with locations at:

  • Weston City Hall, 17200 Royal Palm Boulevard
  • Weston Community Center, 20200 Saddle Club Road
  • BSO Fire Station 81, 17350 Royal Palm Boulevard

NEW CodeRED Options Available
Language Options AND Weather Alerts
The City’s Emergency Notification System has added two new features. The first is the option to select from four languages other than English to receive your messages. The second is to register to receive Severe Weather Warnings issued by the National Weather Service, which will send push notifications for quick-moving types of storms. We urge all residents and business owners to register. If you are already registered, review your contact information or re-register to ensure it is up-to-date and make any new selections.

House with Shutters in the City of Weston
Hurricane Preparedness
Protecting Your Home
As a storm eyes the Florida peninsula, residents should prioritize storm preparedness tasks around the home. These are just a few tips, but click the link below for more.

Protect your windows. If you do not have hurricane impact-rated windows or doors, be sure to put up shutters if a hurricane watch is issued for our area. If you do not have shutters, make arrangements now for possible window coverings, such as plywood secured to your home’s exterior walls. Plywood and other supplies will be difficult to purchase once a hurricane watch goes into effect.

Bring loose items inside, including any lawn furniture, BBQ grills, garbage/recycling carts, hanging plants, bird feeders, lawn decorations, etc. that may be blown around by heavy winds.

Do not trim trees prior to a storm’s arrival. Piles of branches will become projectiles and garbage/trash pickup may be postponed during high winds. Trees should be pruned annually BEFORE hurricane season to ensure that they can weather the storm.
