NEWS FROM THE CITY OF WESTON December 10, 2019 SEE Something, SAY Something Several schools in Weston have been experiencing internet, email or text threats over the past week. In one of the instances at Falcon Cove Middle School, a 12 year-old girl has been arrested and charged with two felony counts. Threats are a CRIME and we all need to make children aware of the consequences of their actions and to Think Before You Post. Remember, if you SEE or HEAR something that's suspicious, be sure to SAY something.  Read More » Weston Rotary Run for Tomorrow a Success The 22nd Annual Rotary Run For Tomorrow Half-Marathon, 5K and Mayor’s Challenge 1-Mile Health Walk went off without a hiccup on a spectacularly perfect December morning in Weston. Jonathan Werble, 23 years of age crossed the finish line for the Half-Marathon at the fast pace of 1:16:00. Over 363 runners participated this year. The 5K drew 493 runners, and the over-all winner was 34-year old Raidel Guerrero who ran it in 18:04. A huge thank you to the more than 2,000 students and their parents who came out in support of their school and the Mayor’s Challenge! View Photos » 2019 Mayor's Get Fit Challenge 1-Mile Health Walk And the Winner Is... The Mayor’s Challenge Cup was awarded to Sagemont Lower School, for achieving the highest participation rate in the Mayor’s Challenge 1-Mile Health Walk at the Rotary Run event on Dec. 8. All elementary schools that had over 10% participation at the walk were awarded a check for $1,000, from Weston Rotary and event sponsors. A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR At a recent statewide meeting of park and friends’ group leaders, we were happy to welcome an accomplished guest. Johnny Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops, spoke to us about his efforts to conserve America’s natural resources and connect people with the outdoors. Much of Johnny’s work focuses on getting kids outside. At Florida State Parks, we are happy to share that mission and host many great events that help kids have fun and explore nature. Our Junior Ranger program gives kids a sense of ownership of their favorite parks while teaching them about Florida’s natural and cultural heritage. Other ranger-hosted activities enlist kids to help keep beaches clean, see manatees for the first time or learn how to go fishing. This is a busy season at Florida State Parks as we welcome many visitors and host holiday events. We’re glad to help celebrate and make state parks great places for picnics, walks, camping, fishing and many more activities that are a joy to do alongside others. It’s a great time of year to have these shared experiences. As my kids were growing up and even now when they return home for the holidays, going to parks for hikes and cycling is a special part of the season. Florida State Parks welcome visitors 365 days a year, and I’m grateful for our rangers who are working in the field this holiday season. G.O. Bond: Tis' the Season! MIAMI BEACH

Tis' the Season! Thanks to Miami Beach residents, the city is being showered with gifts this holiday season! With the G.O. Bond Program well underway, quality-of-life enhancements can be seen popping up all over town.   Last month, roadways were re-paved and re-surfaced on Lenox Avenue between 6 and 11 streets, and on 10 Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Alton Road. The North Shore Park & Youth Center was spruced up with a fresh interior paint job and new LED lighting fixtures. The Scott Rakow Youth Center was also refreshed with a new layer of interior and exterior paint. Crespi Park and Stillwater Park received new perimeter fences and LED sports lights, and Normandy Isle Park received new LED lighting fixtures as well.   This month, the North Shore Park & Youth Center will complete its facility roof replacement and the Scott Rakow Youth Center will have a new energy-efficient HVAC system up-and-running. In addition, over 90 new trees will be planted across Muss Park and the 20 Street Pocket Park. What else is under construction? The Fillmore roof – to be completed in early 2020. Miami City Ballet roof – to be completed in early 2020. Lummus Park / Ocean Drive security cameras – to be completed in early 2020. North Shore Park & Youth Center security cameras – to be completed in spring of 2020. Scott Rakow Youth Center security cameras – to be completed in early 2020. Scott Rakow Youth Center roof – to be completed in early 2020. Scott Rakow Youth Center impact windows – to be completed in early 2020. Public Safety Radio System – to be completed in early 2020. Palm & Hibiscus Landscaping – to be completed in spring of 2020. The Middle Beach Beachwalk path between 23 Street and 45 Street – to be completed in early 2021.
