Weston's Hometown
Fourth of July Celebration Events
Get ready to show off your patriotic pride! Weston’s Hometown Fourth of July Celebration is almost here! It starts off on Sunday, July 3 with an evening of Fun, Freedom and FIREWORKS at Regional Park from 6 p.m. until the fireworks finale at 9 p.m.

The next morning - Monday, July 4 - lace up your running sneakers to walk or run in the 5K race. Registration is open now, so gather your friends and family and start a new holiday tradition together. The race starts at 7:15 a.m. at Regional Park.

After the race, head out to Weston Town Center to enjoy our Hometown Parade that will step off at 10:30 a.m. and make its way down Main Street. Cheer on our 2022 Grand Marshal, the Florida Panthers Hockey Club, featuring the coolest mascots of the National Hockey League, Stanley C. Panther and Viktor E. Ratt. Arrive early to pick your seat curbside.
WestonGov Academy
Parks & Recreation and Landscaping
It was hard to believe the final session day of the WestonGov Academy program had arrived. On June 16, participants met at the Community Center for a jam-packed program that included a tree-trimming demo, and a tree GPS demo whereby our Landscape Coordinator marked and entered all of the information of a tree into the City tree data base that contains over 38,000 tress in our parks and rights-of-way; a tour of Regional Park with explanations all along the way about how the turf is maintained, how the different fields are maintained and who is contracted to do it, and background on the Weston Alliance. Next, they were provided an overview of Special Events and class programming and how it is provided in Weston, along with an update on the current Parks & Recreation Masterplan underway.

Finally, WestonGov Academy participants learned intimately how much it takes to keep up the lush, landscaped beauty we all enjoy in our hometown and the intricacies of pesticides and fertilization – it is a science all its own. And then there is watering all of it! With over 30,000 sprinkler heads to take care of, the Landscaping Department is busy to say the least. They want you to know water is pulled from the lakes for the irrigation, it is not potable water. Also if you see sprinklers on while it is raining… it is only because a rain sensor is broken or they are doing a sprinkler head check. What a great experience and thank you to Kara, Thad, Andy, Bryan, Annalisa and Josh who provided their areas of expertise.
Pride Month
The Trevor Project and Trans Lifeline
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), LGB adults are more than twice as likely (and transgender individuals are four times more likely) to experience a mental health condition in comparison to their cisgender and heterosexual counterparts. The mental health of our community is important, especially for LGBTQIA+ youth and adults.

The Trevor Project and the Trans Lifeline’s call centers connect you or your family members with peer counselors and resources.
  • The Trevor Project has a 24/7 crisis counselor, 365 days a year that is 100% confidential and free. Call 1-866-488-7386.
  • The Trans Lifeline’s Hotline is a peer support phone service run by trans and non-binary individuals. Call 877-565-8860.

Water Smart Weston
Always Have a Water Watcher
Did you know that 90% of drowning occurs when a child gets out undetected? Always have a water watcher to monitor the pool and /or any body of water around your home. It only takes seconds for a child to find their way to the water and a potentially dangerous situation.

water watcher is someone who can devote their undivided attention to the water source whether it’s to monitor the use of a swimming pool or a backyard lake.

REMEMBER: Drowning IS preventable.
Stormwater
How We Manage Stormwater to Minimize
Local Flooding
After a heavy rain, your street and or low-lying swale area may be flooded. This type of pooling water is part of the normal stormwater drainage process, as it takes some time for the water to move through the storm drains (catch basins) or until it is absorbed into the ground. Weston’s many lakes and canals are all part of the stormwater drainage system (they are not intended for recreational purposes). Learn more about the stormwater management system and how Weston manages the entire process.
Community Center
Drop In for Summer Fun

Drop by solo or with friends, pick a table and let the games begin!

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday – Open from 12 to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday – Open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Weston Awarded Two Grants for Playgrounds
$200,000 each from the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP)
Athletes may want more soccer fields but moms with toddlers know its all about the playground and a SHADED playground at that… With 5% of the population in Weston under the age of five, playgrounds are a necessity, and now two of them will get make-overs thanks to FRDAP grants providing $200,000 each for park playgrounds at Gator Run and Regional Park.

Lock Your Vehicle
Don't Leave Key Fobs in Cars
The majority of burglaries to vehicles are crimes of opportunity - meaning the vehicles are UNLOCKED in 80% of the reported cases in Weston. Which means, in most instances they could have been prevented by simply locking the vehicles doors. Weston IS a safe community, but residents cannot get so content as to not practice basic security measures. Would you advertise that you leave your house unlocked? Don’t do the same with your cars…

"Dinosaur Safari was really exceptional. I got as excited as my kids, even though I wasn't a dino fan before. We expected to just see statues like in a museum, but we were blown away."
