NEWS FROM THE CITY OF WESTON February 22, 2022 ‌ Next Regular City Commission Meeting: TONIGHT at 7 p.m. Weston University Law Enforcement Day Weston University visited our partners at Broward Sheriff's Office Weston last week and learned the in's and out's of law enforcement. After a personal welcome from Police Chief Cavalieri, they started the day by meeting members of BSO's aviation division (who arrived via BSO chopper) at Markham Park. Then, they learned how deputies enter and move through dangerous buildings. They wrapped their day at the BSO Weston District office with hands-on crime scene analysis, a drone demo, and a demonstration from the K9 unit member, Nitro. The movie features Barney, a socially awkward middle-schooler, and Ron, his new walking, talking digitally connected device. Together they launch into an action-packed journey against the backdrop of social media, where they come to terms with the wonderful messiness of true friendship. The movie starts promptly at 7:30 p.m. Coolers are welcome, but alcohol is not permitted.  Learn More » Enjoy the Sights & Sounds of Weston World Fest Sunday, March 6 | Noon to 4 p.m. The award-winning seventh annual Weston World Fest is back to Regional Park on Sunday, March 6 with a celebration of the ”Seasons”, featuring 20 interactive booths that will display their unique interpretation of this year’s theme, highlighting seasonal celebrations from around the world. Younger attendees will enjoy the return of the Passport Program, allowing children to enjoy a tour of the world and receive free tickets for activities such as henna art, balloon art and airbrush tattoos, based on the number of countries they visit. Food vendors will offer authentic international cuisine, hosted by area restaurants. Leon County Invites Artists to Submit Artwork for Exhibition Celebrating Neurodiversity

Leon County Government invites residents of all ages and abilities to submit artwork for an upcoming exhibition titled “Artists and Autism: Celebrating Neurodiversity.” Artwork will be displayed at the Leon County Main Library, Able Artists Gallery, and Obsessions Gift Shop throughout the month of April in celebration of National Autism Acceptance Month. The deadline for submission is Monday, February 28 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

 

For more information and to submit artwork for consideration, visit LeonCountyFL.gov/Celebration. Citizens may visit any library branch location for assistance with their online application.

  

The exhibition will open during First Friday at Railroad Square on Friday, April 1 at Able Artists Gallery and Obsessions Gift Shop. Then, on Saturday, April 2 from 2 - 4 p.m., the Leon County Public Library will host an exhibition opening and celebration at the downtown Main Library.

 

The exhibition is in partnership with the FSU Autism Institute and Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (FSU CARD), Able Artists Gallery, Arts4All Florida, the Council on Culture & Arts (COCA), and Obsessions Gift Shop.

 

National Autism Acceptance Month is recognized every April to spread awareness, promote acceptance, and ignite change. Leon County Government will host events throughout the month as well as reading lists, book displays, crafts, and sensory STEAM adventure bags.
