Leon County COVID-19 Community Update for December 14

As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread globally, Leon County Emergency Management is committed to actively monitoring the disease and coordinating preparedness and response efforts with local health officials, healthcare providers, first responders and other critical emergency response functions.

The following update provides a timely, accurate and vetted source of official County and community information.

Significant Changes Since Last Update

Free COVID-19 Drive-Thru testing at Leon County's Jane G. Sauls Fort Braden Branch Library (16327 Blountstown Hwy) on Tuesday, December 15 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

​Open to all patients, both symptomatic and asymptomatic.

PCR molecular testing (results in 2-4 days) and Rapid Antigen testing (results in at least 30-45 minutes) available.

No appointments. Bring a valid photo ID and provide an email address.

Free COVID-19 Walk Up testing at Sabal Palm Elementary School (2813 Ridgeway St) on Saturday, December 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.​

Open to all patients, both symptomatic and asymptomatic.

PCR testing only. Results in 2 days.

Photo ID required to be tested.

Testing operated by Bond Community Health Center. For more information call (850) 296-6858.

Free Drive-Thru COVID-19 testing at Leon County's Northeast Branch Library (5513 Thomasville Rd) on Sunday, December 20 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Open to all patients, both symptomatic and asymptomatic.

PCR molecular testing (results in 2-4 days) and Rapid Antigen testing (results in at least 30-45 minutes) available.

No appointments. Bring a valid photo ID and provide an email address.

Free COVID-19 Drive-Thru testing at North Monroe Medical Center (3721 N Monroe St) on Monday, December 21 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Open to all patients, both symptomatic and asymptomatic. 

PCR testing only. Results in 2 days.

Additional Testing Dates Scheduled at North Monroe Medical Center:

Wednesday, December 30 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. starting January 6, 2021 through March 31, 2021. 

COVID-19 Testing Site at FAMU Bragg Memorial Stadium (1500 Wahnish Way, Tallahassee, FL 32307)

The site is currently offering Rapid COVID-19 Antigen testing for all patients with results in less than 1 hour. PCR molecular testing is available by request with results in 3-4 days. Sign up for testing at curative.com 

Testing is free and open to the public. Appointments and walk-ups are accepted. Physician referral not required. Insurance is accepted but not required.

The Rapid COVID-19 Antigen test sample is collected by a healthcare worker who will gently swab the inside of a patient's nostrils. This collection process is quick, easy and comfortable.

Patients receive their Rapid COVID-19 Antigen results within one hour of testing by email or SMS text. The Florida Department of Health receives all patient results and will contact patients with positive results.

The Curative RT-PCR molecular COVID-19 test is collected by a healthcare worker who will gently swab the inside of a patient's nostrils. This collection process is quick, easy and comfortable. Patient results will be available within 3-4 days.

As of December 14, the site is operational from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Saturday. The site closes when the number of allocated tests has been reached.

WAIT TIMES MAY VARY: Appointment slots are considered a form of pre-registration and are not always reflective of the time you will be seen. Pre-registration ensures that you will get into the line more quickly.

On September 25, Governor DeSantis signed Executive Order 20-244 that places all of Florida into Phase 3 of the COVID-19 recovery plan, effective immediately. View the Executive Order by clicking HERE.

Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality (OEV) distributes cloth face coverings to businesses. Face coverings are available for pickup at the Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality. A business with one location is eligible for up to 100 face coverings. Local businesses with multiple locations are eligible for up to 200 face coverings. County offering free face coverings for pickup at all Libraries. Leon County continues to make free face coverings available for pickup at all County library locations during regular hours. Through the library program and with OEV, the County has distributed over 475,000 masks to citizens. It’s Not Too Much to Mask Campaign. Leon County launched the social media campaign, It’s Not Too Much to Mask to encourage the use of masks and facial coverings in public. If you’d like to participate, post a masked-up selfie and share why you wear a mask and for whom using #MaskOnLeon.

Si te gusta hacer donaciones a las entidades de caridad a fin de año, piensa que este también es el momento de asegurarte de que tus donaciones lleguen a aquellas organizaciones que tienes intenciones de ayudar. Porque este año, hay muchas organizaciones de caridad que realmente necesitan tu ayuda.

Cuando empieces a recibir esos emails y llamadas de fin de año de parte de las organizaciones de caridad:

No te dejes presionar para donar. Sí, de acuerdo, es fin de año. Pero las organizaciones de caridad que operan legítimamente recibirán tu dinero con alegría en todo momento.

Verifica la reputación de la organización de caridad antes de donar, especialmente porque a los estafadores les encanta usar nombres muy parecidos a los de las organizaciones de caridad auténticas que conoces. Usa estas organizaciones como ayuda para hacer tu búsqueda.

Si alguien te dice que le pagues en efectivo, con una tarjeta de regalo o haciendo una transferencia de dinero a través de una compañía como MoneyGram o Western Union, pisa el freno del trineo. Los estafadores piden esos medios de pago.

En lo que se refiere a las llamadas indeseadas, hay algunas verdades universales. Primero, no puedes confiar en tu identificador de llamadas. Segundo, a nadie le gustan las llamadas automáticas pre-grabadas o robocalls. Y tercero, el secreto está en el bloqueo de llamadas. Si viste The Mandalorian, este es el momento en que dices, “this is the way”. (Si no viste la película, solo significa: el bloqueo de llamadas… es bueno).

En el 7º día de Protección del Consumidor, mira este video para descubrir cómo bloquear las llamadas fraudulentas — de renos sospechosos y otros bandidos — en tu teléfono móvil.

Y visita ftc.gov/llamadasindeseadas para aprender a bloquear las llamadas en el teléfono de tu casa, ya sea de línea fija o VoIP. La FTC advierte a los oculistas que prescriben anteojos que deben cumplir la ley — o de lo contrario, ya verán

La Regla de Anteojos de la FTC te facilita la comparación antes de comprar — lo cual te puede ayudar a ahorrar dinero. Después de someterte a un examen de la vista que determine tu mejor nivel de visión con anteojos (una refracción), la persona a cargo de emitir la prescripción, un oculista u oftalmólogo, tiene que entregarte una copia de esa prescripción — aunque no se la pidas. Tú puedes usar tu prescripción para comprar tus anteojos o gafas en cualquier lugar que los vendan — a otro profesional, en una tienda o en internet. Puede haber una amplia variación de costos, calidad y surtido entre los vendedores, así que vale la pena buscar y comparar para encontrar el trato más conveniente.

El profesional a cargo de la prescripción de tus anteojos no puede hacerte pagar un cargo extra, ni obligarte a que le compres los anteojos a él, ni hacerte firmar un formulario de exención o descargo a cambio de tu prescripción o receta. Así lo establece la ley. Así y todo, no todos los profesionales autorizados a prescribir anteojos actúan de la manera correcta. Es por este motivo que la FTC envió cartas de advertencia a 28 profesionales de la vista para informarles posibles infracciones a la Regla de Anteojos. En los reclamos que involucran a cinco profesionales de la vista también se alegan infracciones a la Regla de Lentes de Contacto, que establece requerimientos similares con respecto a la entrega de las prescripciones de lentes de contacto a los pacientes. En las cartas se les indica a los oculistas que revisen las reglas, cumplan con los requerimientos aplicables y se les informa que la falta de cumplimiento puede dar como resultado acciones legales y la aplicación de multas de tipo monetario.

Si sospechas que un médico oculista u oftalmólogo está infringiendo la Regla de Anteojos o la Regla de Lentes de Contacto, cuéntanoslo en ReporteFraude.ftc.gov.
