City of Miami Beach Update on COVID-19

The City Manager extended the city’s State of Emergency Declaration and Emergency Measures through September 30, 2020.   Additionally, the city would like to provide the following clarification provided by Miami-Dade County on their amended Emergency Order 29-20 that became effective September 18:   Facial coverings are required to be worn on all athletic fields and courts (except tennis courts). Controlling over anything else in Emergency Order 20-20 to the contrary, all persons engaged in sports activities, including drills, practices, and, where otherwise allowed in this order, scrimmages and games, shall wear facial covering while on an athletic field or courts. Tennis courts are the only exception.   Limited competitive play is allowed including scrimmages, but not organized inter-team sports or league games with the exception of tennis, racquetball, softball and baseball. Limited active uses are allowed, including organized sports team activities and scrimmages, but organized competitions, and league play are not permitted, except in the case of tennis, racquetball, softball and baseball, and if masks are worn by all players. Other organized sports team competitions and league play are not permitted. Bleachers shall not be open to spectators where organized sports team competitions and league play is permitted.   Sports equipment shall not be shared. This does not apply to balls and does not apply as between members of a household.  Operations of outdoor amusement and other outdoor recreational facilities and events are allowed at 50 percent capacity so long as the facility complies with the relevant portions of this order. The following guidelines shall apply to all golf courses, public and private, in Miami-Dade County:   Indoor activities may be open, limited to 50 percent capacity of the facility, following the guidelines of the New Normal Handbook.  Up to four people from the same household are permitted to ride in carts. Drive-Thru Food Distribution Feeding South Florida and Commissioner David Richardson will host a drive-thru food distribution tomorrow, September 26. Saturday, September 26 9 AM - 11 AM 2100 Collins Avenue Miami Beach, FL The food distribution is on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last. Please remain in your car and open the trunk when it's your turn in line. If you do not have a car and would like to qualify for food assistance, please call or register online. Art Outside with the Bass With works ranging from monumental sculptures, neon, to sound and video, and participatory artworks, Art Outside is a public art exhibition initiated by The Bass that offers residents and visitors the opportunity to see and experience a network of public artworks throughout Miami Beach. In light of the socially distant world born from the COVID-19 pandemic, Art Outside takes the form of a curated parcours, expanding beyond The Bass’ Collins Park campus to multiple partner sites throughout the city. Installed in Collins Park and around The Bass, artworks include permanent and temporary works from The Bass’ collection and more. Mask Up Miami Beach We urge everyone to wear a mask, continue practicing social distancing and meticulously wash hands regularly. Reminder, Miami Beach Police and Code Compliance Officers are giving out $50 civil citations for anyone not wearing a facial covering while in a public place or space. Free masks are being provided at all Miami-Dade Public Libraries.

Countdown to Fill Out the Census - 5 Days Left! Census takers are still visiting households that have not responded to the census to collect responses in person. Census takers may also visit households that have already responded as part of 2020 Census quality checks. Now, more than ever, it's important to get counted! Are you a renter? FREE GED & ESOL Classes The City of Miami Beach is funding one class of either ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) or GED (General Educational Development, available in English or Spanish) for Miami Beach residents. Classes are offered virtually by the Miami Beach Adult and Community Education Center, and are offered Monday through Thursday in the morning, afternoon and evening. Residents must register online at www.miamibeachadult.com. When prompted, enter your City of Miami Beach address to be awarded the $30 cost of a class. Only addresses with zip codes 33139, 33140 or 33141 will be eligible. If you have any question, please call 305.531.0451 to speak to a Registration Specialist for assistance.

COVID-19 & Antibody Testing The Miami Beach Convention Center testing site offers drive-up and walk-up COVID-19 antigen tests (“rapid tests”). This test is a nasal swab test with results reported to the patient within 4 hours or less. It will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily or until the site reaches the maximum 350 daily allotted tests. More detailed information on the purpose and efficacy of the antigen test can be found on the CDC website. Both the COVID-19 active virus and antibody tests continue to be available at the Miami Beach Convention Center testing facility located on 17 Street and Convention Center Drive. The COVID-19 drive-thru and walk-up testing site is available daily, including weekends, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., except for Thursdays where the site closes at 3:30 p.m. Testing is available for ages 5 and up. Plasma Donation As the number of COVID-19 infections rise in Florida, hospitals are facing critical shortages of convalescent plasma for treatment. The University of Miami Health System is working with OneBlood to collect convalescent plasma to use for a potential treatment option for patients with COVID-19. Who can participate in this study? A donor must be over 18 years old, have confirmed COVID-19 documents by a laboratory test, or history suggestive of resolved COVID-19 like illness. Participants must also have complete resolution of symptoms at least 28 days before donation and not participated in any COVID vaccine trials for at least the past 12 months.
