School Zones: Clarification on Temporary Parking in Bike Lanes
In last week's Newsday Tuesday, we indicated that vehicles are only allowed to park in bike lanes during morning drop off and afternoon dismissal .

Temporary parking in the bike lanes surrounding Weston's elementary schools will also be allowed for school-based special events, open houses, and special assemblies when parents and guests are invited to attend. The Broward Sheriff’s Office will not enforce the temporary parking only rule during such events, as there is not enough parking on school property to accommodate all the visitors. By State Statute (FSS 316.1945,1) “at the direction of a police officer” Law Enforcement is permitted to allow vehicles to park in bike lanes for a specific purpose, (i.e. drop off, dismissal pick up, or a school-based special event.)

Vehicles that are parked in the bike lanes beyond the allowable temporary time period will be issued citations.
